The Welsh Government will invest £500,000 in a scheme to provide young people across Wales with work experience to reach their full potential.

The scheme will support up to 500 learners aged 14-16, who are at risk of leaving education. These young people will gain a high quality work experience placement, in a sector that they are interested in, to help engage with and progress their career ambitions.
Careers Wales will work with schools and employers across Wales to match learners to the right placement.

In response to this funding announcement, Lee Waters said:

“It is so important that young people have the self-belief, confidence, and access to opportunities to achieve their ambitions. We know that, for some learners, school can be extremely challenging so it is vital that we provide opportunities for all of our young people to thrive, and gain skills in an area of work that inspires them. This much needed boost in work experience investment aims to do just that.”
The funding announcement follows a successful pilot, with young people across Wales already benefitting from Welsh Government funded work experience. Young people involved in the scheme will be expected to engage or reengage with core GCSE studies at their school as part of the scheme, whilst attending their work experience placement.
