They Have No Shame

We talk about how hard it is to be a member of the Royal Family, but actually all they do is Meet and Greet. Everything else is done for them. 

I remember vividly when the Queen was getting ready for a dinner, she had her lady-in-waiting, who worked for free by the way, with her and they were looking at all this magnificent jewellery. She picked up a necklace and said to her, “Have I worn this before?” 

There is no sense of shame knowing that there are people out there, her so-called subjects,  struggling to survive. They do have one issue they have to live with which is that every move they make, as the song goes, I’ll be watching you. They live in a goldfish bowl when they are out in public. Lip readers are employed to tell us what they are saying to each other, body language experts tell us how they are feeling by studying them and the women are judged by their looks. So they have to please us. That is their role. If they do not behave themselves then they are ruthlessly attacked by the media. Women get it the worst and if you do not fit into the mould you get it worse. I have never known the amount of vitriol that Meghan Markle receives from the right wing press because she could not cope with it all. Piers Morgan is particularly brutal and nauseating. Andrew, who was protected by the Queen, to the tune of £12 million and won’t move out of the Royal Lodge with the 32 rooms does not get as much viciousness as Meghan. Camilla and Fergie behaved badly but now Camilla is the Queen the attacks on her have stopped.

We continue to behave like cap-doffing peasants as with this monarch we are still in a feudal system. We kowtow to the royal personages. We show much reverence to a group of very flawed people. When there is a Royal wedding, it costs us a fortune but we love it, where the bride is dressed in virginal white accompanied by the father who is giving his daughter away to another man like a piece of property. It is still back in the middle ages but the only thing missing is the dowry that the father had to pay to the groom to get rid of his daughter. This is why historically girl children were not welcome. Nowadays it does not matter but in the past it really did as they had to marry for money so the family had to find suitable husbands as in the novel Pride and Prejudice.

The King’s coronation ritual is a lie at the heart of the British state. It protects the Protestant faith even though very few of us are now religious. Also the coronation is not necessary. It is just a ploy to keep us subservient. The coronation oath is not necessary. It is historical and not suitable for the present day. The British monarchy is separate from us Britons and other monarchies in Europe. Our Royal Family is the wealthiest one in Europe. We are supposed to pay homage to the King.

We no longer have the British Empire, our shameful past. The King was chosen as our Head of State, chosen by God. The coronation should have been a civic event not a religious one. We should be asking ourselves these questions. We are citizens not subjects as the monarchy would prefer. We should not pledge allegiance to the King. He should pledge allegiance to us. This is why Sinn Féin MPs do not take their seats in Parliament as they will not pledge to the King. Tony Benn crossed his fingers behind his back when he took the oath.

The Queen negotiated with the government that her money would be exempt from some taxation. She made her son a billionaire. They have huge wealth while there are soaring levels of poverty  among her subjects, including 3 million children. No shame!

In fact they make wealth seem normal. The family’s wealth comes at least partially from the slave trade and they use tax havens. Labour has to do something about it. As columnist Polly Toynbee wrote, “For something so hollow, the Royal Family is astonishingly expensive.”

When Charles became King, the Duchy of Cornwell passed to Prince William who instantly became another billionaire. Charles is one of the largest landowners in England. As Jesus said, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” 

Charles gets an annual payment of £20 million a year. I can go on and on about their wealth and how much they cost us but I want to move on to their health issues.

The Princess of Wales and the King are both being treated for cancer. There are thousands of patients on the waiting list to be treated for cancer. She has a medical team looking after her. No shame! They could easily donate to a cancer charity to cut the waiting lists. Why don’t they help us with problems like this? Wherever Taylor Swift has performed she has donated huge amounts to local food banks. She has a conscience.

Nearly 4 out of 10 young people do not approve of the monarchy, and only 32% of 18-24’s support them. The Republic organisation tries to show how the Royals are a waste of money. We have to pay for them when we have a cost of living crisis. Children are starving, rickets has returned and schools are now providing beds as children do not have places to sleep at home and breakfast. No shame!

The monarchy is out of touch. The monarchy is selfish. We still fund a 45% pay rise to help support them. They have no shame.
