The work to improve special education facilities in Llanelli has started. David Davies, former Head of Additional Learning Needs and Wellbeing for Vale of Glamorgan Council, has been commissioned by Carmarthenshire Council to lead an independent review of the current Additional Learning Needs (ALN) specialist provision in Llanelli.
As of next week, 9 September 2024, the independent consultant will meet with learners, parents, staff, governors and wider stakeholders to listen and take on board their views. All future proposals that will be developed, following the independent review, will be subject to a full public consultation at the appropriate time.
Carmarthenshire County Council is fully committed to delivering the very best education and improving facilities to all of its ALN pupils. Whilst the authority awaits the report from David Davies, to determine its medium to long term provision of ALN education in Llanelli, just under ยฃ0.5million is being invested by the County Council to improve the current facilities at Ysgol Heol Goffa.

Providing the very best education for our ALN learners is paramount for us as a Council and the Governing Body of Ysgol Heol Goffa.
Together, we have been working to ensure that the needs of the children and their families are met, both in the short term – through this investment of almost ยฃ0.5million in the school building, and in the medium to long term through the independent review of ALN provision in Llanelli.
We have tasked the independent consultant to produce a range of costed options to the Council for us to consider. We hope to receive this report in the next few months, in order to enable us to make a decision as quickly as possible.
As is now well known, regrettably, soaring construction costs, a factor that is outside our control, meant we were unable to proceed with the tender to build the planned special school for Heol Goffa. At the request of parents, we have made a formal request to the Welsh Government to fully fund the increase in the construction costs, however the Government has confirmed that it is also unable to do so.
We remain committed to investing in improved ALN provision in Llanelli, and I am looking forward to continuing to work progressively with Ysgol Heol Goffaโs Governing Body, to provide a first-class education to our learners.โ
Wasting money to try to improve this very old building instead of investing in a new shool which was supposed to have been built by now
Independent review what does that mean, I believe that the Welsh Assembly government gave money to build a new school over seven years ago, Carmarthen Council representatives spokesman said there no money ๐ where as the money gone.
When my son started at the school at the age off 8 yrs we was told then they where going to be getting a new school, built for them every term since then he looked forward to school but nothing was built it was eventually started and all the kids was excited as they all know they need a new school then he was to old to be in school even though he left they still not built it which is needed for all these kids I seen my son and other children been in the hall and other parts as make up class rooms this is a excellent school for all special needs children they deserve this school they should carry on building and let they children get in the school thatโs very much needed and wanted by all children and parents
Just heard something on the Welsh radio cymru station this week about the reorganization of the regions and that Llanelli and Carmarthen will be in its own region and controlled from Carmarthen, So here goes again all the finances that were earmarked for the Llanelli area will be pointed towards Carmarthen as the well being centre that is currently being built at Machynis, Llanelli is 3 months behind opening schedule due to so called bad weather problems.
What happened to all the monies that the council gained when selling off council houses and the public were told that these monies would pay for new council House to be built and to date none have come about in their construction plans.
Carmarthenshire council is not fit for purpose and should be overseen by proper financial institution to balance the books and be accountable for where monies have been spent.
They put up new street lighting and now it is like driving in the old Eastern block country where you can hardly see Infront of your feet, the trees along the roadways obscure the lights in several areas so not fit for purpose.
The roads are diabolical from not being maintained to the proper standards, so if your car damages any part of the roads they will claim of you personally or your insurance company but who pays for the damage to your vehicle damaged by unkempt highways then it should be down to the councils.
