The ‘A’ level examination results published today by the WJEC indicate that very high standards are being maintained in the schools of Ceredigion. 97.8% of entries for WJEC examinations were graded A* to E, with 24.4% of the entries achieving the top ’A’ grades.

2. Reaction from Cabinet Member and Director of Lifelong Learning and Partnerships
County Councillor Hag Harries, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Learning Services, stated: “This year saw the highest number of A level entries for the last 5 years which included a breadth of academic and vocational qualifications. Our very high retention rate into school sixth forms makes Ceredigion one of the most inclusive post-16 providers in Wales. Our students continue to perform very well and outperform the average for Wales across all grades. I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to our students on their achievements and wish them well for the future.”
Mr. Eifion Evans, Strategic Director of Lifelong Learning and Partnerships, said: “I would like to congratulate students on these excellent results. I am particularly pleased with the continued increase in A* grades and, although A*-C grades reflect the national picture by being lower than last year they remain very strong and higher than the average for Wales. The vast majority of students will also benefit from achieving the Welsh Baccalaureate, which will further strengthen their qualification profile. I would like to thank parents, school staff and governors for their efforts in ensuring the continued success of our students”
