The Walk of Britain expedition – an event organised by the Walking with the Wounded Charity (WWTW) – will arrive in Aberaeron on Wednesday 23 September 2015.
The Walk of Britain is the most recent expedition organised by WWTW, which will see six UK and US wounded veterans walk over 1,000 miles through mainland UK throughout August, September and October this year.
The Walk aims to engage with local communities and the media every day to highlight the extraordinary determination of our wounded personnel. It will also raise awareness for the work that WWTW is doing in the community to support those physically, mentally and socially disadvantaged by their service back into independence through employment.
Councillor Paul Hinge, Ceredigion’s Armed Forces Champion said: “This is an amazing challenge and one that we are proud to be involved in supporting. Our wounded personnel have done so much for our country and to be able to show our support for their inspirational efforts over the past few weeks and coming months will be a proud moment.”
The wounded service personnel all have physical or cognitive injuries sustained in the line of duty. The Walk started on 22 August in Scotland and will finish in London on 1 November, going through Wales and all parts of England.
Members doing the walk are hoping to arrive in Aberaeron at approximately 3.30pm on Wednesday 23 September. Thereafter, they will continue their walk to the Ceredigion County Council offices in Penmorfa, Aberaeron where they will be greeted by Leader of the Council, Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, Chairman of the Council, Councillor Gill Hopley, Chairman of the Council, together with members of the Ceredigion Armed Forces Community Covenant (CAFCC), Aberaeron Town Mayor and County Council members, to discuss their journey and raise awareness of their cause.
