The poll was carried out by asking 1,170 adults from a cross section of the community, and like previous years, follows a common thread.

Our resident Time2Talk agony aunt said:

“It’s very common for people to look at starting afresh in January, we see the New Year as a new you.  A chance to start again after a particularly bad year, or to save for the holiday or get down or up to the ideal weight.”

“Last year has gone, time to start again. However, most people give up on their resolutions within the first couple of weeks.”

When do most people give up their resolutions?

January the 12th!

Who says? Well, according to research conducted by Strava, which is a social network for athletes, January 12th is the day when the New Year, New You motivation begins to wane.

Strava, analysed over 31.5 million global January activities, and was able to pinpoint the second Friday in January as “Quitters’ Day”.

Gareth Mills, country manager for Strava said:

“Sticking to resolutions is hard and we all know there’s a lot of talk and pressure in January about getting fitter and being healthier.”

“A key factor in success is motivation, and analysing millions of activity uploads, we’ve been able to pinpoint the day your motivation is most likely to waver.”

Did you make any resolutions? Is yours in the list? Is your motivation beginning to waver? Please let us know.
