Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for leisure, Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “We remain totally committed to securing the future of the park and mansion house.
We have met with the town and rural councils to talk about our portfolio, and have offered both councils the opportunity to take over the running of the park. We are still awaiting a full and final response from the Town Council, which has set up a sub- group to look at the range of facilities in their area and we have set a deadline of 31st March 2016 for a decision.
A constructive meeting was held with the Parc Howard Association in April and we are due to meet again in September. The park and mansion house costs around £106,000 a year to maintain, a sum which the authority has to reduce given the severe financial pressure it is under. From time to time we are approached by third party organisations who are interested in working with the authority, however, any considerations or such requests have to go through the appropriate democratic process. We have also advised that the proposed transfer to the town council would take precedence”
