On Saturday 28th June, members of Pembrey, Burry Port District and Combined Services association and volunteers began their preparations for the event bright and early at 07:45, despite uncertain weather conditions.
Once the stallholders arrived and everything was set up, all that remained was to await the arrival of our distinguished guest, Lt Col David Mathias.
Upon his arrival, chairperson Roger James took a moment to welcome and express gratitude to everyone in attendance. The event featured a variety of entertainment and numerous stalls both inside the hall and outside. Among the highlights was a display from the Polish history community group, which received high praise and was enjoyed by all attendees.
Seimon Jones, owner of a traveling museum, captivated audiences with his impressive collection of historical military artifacts. Notably, he has received endorsement from Tom Hanks, having collaborated with the actor on the set of the acclaimed film “Saving Private Ryan.”

The event concluded with a poignant lowering of the flag while a bugle was played. We were fortunate that the rain held off, allowing everyone to fully enjoy the day’s activities.

More information on the group here – After the royal British legion closed in Burry Port, a significant number of personnel with ties to HM Armed forces were left without a central gathering place.
In response a dedicated group of veterans formed the Pembrey, Burry port and district combined services association.
Our association aims to provide a space where veterans, their families, active service members and those transitioning to civilian life can come together.
Currently we hold Breakfast clubs and Naafi coffee mornings, plus organise military events along side trips.
The local town council have shown their support and signed the armed forces covenant and they will be collaborating with us on such events.
