Cefin Campbell, a Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd for Sir Gaerfyrddin (Carmarthenshire), has welcomed £354 million of additional spending in Wales following an agreement between Plaid Cymru and Labour to pass a supplementary budget in the Senedd tonight (Tuesday, 3 November).

The Senedd voted 54 to 39 to pass the budget, with Plaid Cymru and Labour supporting it.

As a result of the vote, an additional £145 million will be invested to strengthen the National Health Service, £60 million towards the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) provision, and £55 million towards the government’s plans to expand childcare provision.

There is also additional funding to tackle the housing crisis, to make transport cheaper for young people, and to ensure that more children receive free school meals.

Mr Campbell MS said:

“I am very pleased that an agreement has been reached between Plaid Cymru and Labour to release this vital funding, which will make such a significant difference across Wales including here in Carmarthenshire. It demonstrates what can be achieved through cooperation.

“We in Plaid Cymru were fully aware of the scale of the challenges ahead of us when we were elected as the largest party in the Senedd in May, and we heard clearly on the doorstep that change was needed. As we drew up this supplementary budget, our focus was firmly on those in greatest need of support—people on waiting lists for healthcare, families with young children, and children with additional learning needs.

“The priorities within this additional spending address these issues, helping us to repay the trust that has been placed in us.”
