Many people have heard of Rotary but do not know much about it. Likewise, there are many misconceptions about how Rotary works, what it stands for and most importantly what great work it does in our communities.
Rotary is one of the largest volunteer organisations in the world, it has 1.3 million members and is present in more countries than McDonalds!
In an effort to help understanding of Rotary, the diagram below clearly sets out what Rotary is and is not. During and since the COVID pandemic there has been a large increase in the number of people who volunteer but as the demand for volunteer hours decreases, many people are looking for ways in which they could help their community. Rotary is the answer.
Rotary is organised through a club network. In south Carmarthenshire there are four clubs – Llanelli, Pembrey & Burry Port, Llandeilo and Carmarthen. Each of these clubs offer many opportunities to get involved in local, national and international events and causes. These Clubs meet on different days and times and therefore present an opportunity to suit your availability.
A brand-new Club is being formed in the Gwendraeth Valley. This Club will be very relaxed and informal and become involved in community projects, causes and events throughout the valley.
It is important to point out two things. Firstly, Rotary does not cost much at all; for the price of 3 Costa coffees, say around £10 a month you can become part of this new style Club, be covered by Rotary insurance whilst being involved in projects etc and we can guarantee you will have fun. Rotary also offers the opportunity for personal development, learning new skills and making new friends.
