Independent County Councillors for Glanymor Ward Sean Rees and Louvain Roberts have launched a petition demanding urgent action over the ongoing concerns surrounding the AMG Resources facility and the serious fly infestations that have disrupted communities across Llanelli.

The councillors are calling on Natural Resources Wales, the Welsh Government and Carmarthenshire County Council to properly review the future of the facility, with relocation to a more suitable location or closure needing to be considered.

The petition follows serious fly infestations which have caused disruption toresidents, businesses, schools and community facilities across Llanelli. AMG Resources has been identified as a source of increased fly activity, and enforcement action has already been taken against the facility.

Councillors Rees and Roberts say that enforcement alone is not enough and that the community needs a long-term solution to prevent a repeat of the crisis.

“The message from residents is straightforward: they want action, accountability and a lasting solution.

“We cannot simply wait for another infestation before something is done. The lessons from this crisis must be learned, and robust monitoring and enforcement must continue until the situation is properly resolved.

“The future of the AMG Resources site needs to be seriously reviewed. Residents and local businesses must be given a proper voice in that process, rather than decisions being made without meaningful consultation with the people who have been directly affected.

“Our residents deserve better, and this petition is about making sure that the authorities cannot simply move on and hope the problem disappears. We need firm action now to ensure this does not happen again.”

The petition calls for:

  • The current AMG Resources site to be reviewed, with relocation to a more suitable location considered.
  • Robust monitoring and enforcement to continue until a review or relocation takes place.
  • Residents and local businesses to be properly consulted on the future of the facility.
  • Authorities to learn the lessons from the recent fly crisis and take steps to ensure it cannot happen again.

Paper copies of the petition are available to sign at:
