Long-serving councillor Byron Owen has resigned as ward member for Mynyddbach.
Mr Owen, who was Lord Mayor of Swansea in 1991-92, was first elected a councillor to the former Swansea City Council in 1973.
He has been a member for the Mynyddbach and Penderry wards for 36 years, first with the city council and then with the City & County of Swansea following re-organisation.
An announcement on a by-election for the Mynyddbach seat will be made in the coming weeks.
