Tourism activity in Pembrokeshire, in recent years, has been co-ordinated through the Destination Pembrokeshire Partnership (DPP).
This involves the four core organisations of Pembrokeshire County Council, Pembrokeshire Tourism, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and PLANED working collaboratively together to deliver the Pembrokeshire Destination management plan.
This model, based on mutual cooperation, has worked well but it does create some confusion over who does what within the partnership.
This, coupled with a widening funding gap, the loss of Pembrokeshire Tourism’s core grant funding and public sector budget reductions, means looking at different ways of delivering tourism related services.
Tourism is vital to the Pembrokeshire economy so whatever solution can be found needs to be robust, financially sustainable and capable of maintaining Pembrokeshire’s image as a premier holiday destination in the UK and internationally.
Research company Wavehill, based in Ceredigion, is undertaking a survey of tourism businesses.
They will be contacting a random selection of businesses over the next two weeks to find out what they want from a tourism organisation.
