Did you know that Carmarthenshire came third amongst 21 other authorities in Wales in successful applications to the Heritage Lottery Fund from 1994 to 2016.
A total of 279 applications were submitted across Carmarthenshire, 161 of them being successful. This resulted in an impressive total of £26,627,318 being awarded to various projects within Carmarthenshire.
The successful projects include St Cyndeyrn’s Church, Llangyndeyrn, £83,300; All Saints’ Church, Ammanford, £117,000; Llanelli Railway Goods Shed, £539,100; St Michael’s Church, Llanfihangel ar Arth, £129,200; St Cynin’s Church, St Clears; £79,700; and Abergwili Museum, £1,264,800.
Since forming in 1994, thanks to National Lottery players the HLF has awarded £7.1bn to over 40,000 projects across the UK. The HLF believes that understanding, valuing and sharing heritage brings people together, inspires pride in communities and boosts investment in local economies.
Carmarthenshire County Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “This shows what an active community we have in Carmarthenshire and the quality of the projects applying for support.
“Our hardworking staff in the Community Bureau have helped to attract major investment in the county’s communities.”
