Householders are being reminded to dispose of their waste properly and be careful about who they employ to take waste away from their homes.
It comes after Carmarthernshire County Council Enforcement Officers were alerted to a man driving around Llanelli in a white transit van offering to get rid of resident’s waste – however, the waste is being disposed of illegally.
Residents are reminded to check that anyone collecting waste from their premises has a valid waste carrier licence, which includes garden waste removal. In the event that waste is illegally deposited, householders could be held responsible.
To dispose of waste properly, householders need to know what day their collection is, where their waste should be placed and what items should be placed in what bag, ensuring that the bags are placed out for collection on the correct week. A Swansea Road resident was recently given a fixed penalty notice of £100 for failing to comply.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s executive board member for public protection, Cllr Phillip Hughes said: “It has been brought to the council’s attention that a male is driving around the Llanelli area claiming to have started a new waste removal business. Anyone being offered this service should ask for a copy of the person’s waste carriers licence before handing anything over or they could be prosecuted if their waste is illegally disposed of.
