DYFED Powys Police and Crime Panel have shared concerns over a police base in Carmarthen with the Commissioner.
It follows the decision to sell the Friars Park site, which used to house Carmarthen Police Station.
At a recent meeting of the Panel, independent member Helen Thomas asked the Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn about plans for a policing presence in the town.
“There is a lot of concern in the town and surrounding areas about the availability and accessibility of police services,” she said. “Please could you let people know your plans as soon as possible.”
Mr Llywelyn added: “There will be a police base in Carmarthen, we are in discussion with the county council regarding identifying a few sites. I am hoping to be able to make an announcement on this shortly.”
The former police station at Friars Park used to house around 100 staff and officers before being put up for sale some time ago.
The move was part of the Police Estate Modernisation Programme across Dyfed Powys.
The force moved to a new base in Llangunnor next to Dyfed Powys Police headquarters, however the Commissioner has always signalled his intention to have a neighbourhood policing base in Carmarthen.
The Llangunnor base is open from 9am to 2pm, and 2.40pm to 5pm Mondays to Fridays.
