Ysgol Maes Y Morfa have announced the winners of their St.David’s Day Card Competition.

The competition which formed part of a homework activity was promoted as part of the ‘Criw Cymraeg’ Campus initiative at the School.

Pupils were asked to design a card to celebrate St.David’s Day with a theme of all things Welsh and to include at least one written message in the Welsh Language.

The competition was sponsored by Sean Rees, Llanelli Town Councillor for the Glanymor Ward.

A judging panel visited the School on Monday 18th February to view all the entries. The judging panel included the Rev. Eldon Phillips, Benita Afan Rees, Editor of the Glanymor & Tyisha History Society and Colin Robins, Chairman of the Llanelli Art Society.

The top 3 entries all received certificates for their work and prizes. The winning entry will also now be professionally designed and presented.

1st place was awarded to Amelia Williams
2nd place was awarded to Lucy Jones
3rd place was awarded to Lexi Williams

Mrs Louise Jones, Headteacher of Ysgol Maes Y Morfa said:

We were delighted with the responses from parents and pupils who all supported the competition. There were 187 entries which is nearly one entry from every pupil in the school. What a fantastic range of creativity and knowledge of the welsh language.

Well done all”

Sean Rees added:

Congratulations to all the pupils of Ysgol Maes Y Morfa for their excellent work.

“I could not judge because all of the entries received were fantastic and of such a high standard. I know the judges also found it very difficult to decide.

“It Is always great to visit my former School and see just how it continues to go from strength to strength in being an emerging example of strong partnership work between children’s education and the Community.”
