Teams from 10 secondary schools across Carmarthenshire have given their views on proposals in the Council’s budget as part of an event organised by Carmarthenshire County Council.
The Council’s annual Insight event is open to all secondary schools in the county and gives pupils the chance to put themselves in the roles of the Council’s Cabinet and discuss their opinions on the proposed budget.
The aim of the event is to introduce young people to local government and give them an insight into the challenges on a day-to-day basis. It is also an opportunity for Cabinet Members to hear pupils’ views and discuss with them directly about issues that matter to them.
This year teams of pupils from years 10-13 from Ysgol y Strade, Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn, QE High, Dyffryn Taf, Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin, Coedcae, Bryngwyn, Glan-y-Mor, Dyffryn Aman, Ysgol Bro Dinefwr took part in the event on Thursday January 26 at County Hall in Carmarthen.
Their findings were presented to Chief Executive Wendy Walters, Cabinet Members and senior officers in the Council’s Chamber.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr. Linda Evans said: “The Insight event is a great opportunity for us to hear the honest and straight-talking views of some of our young people in the county. I would like to thank them and their teachers for taking the time to be part of this event. We’ve all learnt a lot and I would like to thank them for their input.”
