Neil Hamilton, MS for Mid & West Wales, and Leader of UKIP Wales, is backing a call for the public to get involved with a campaign to encourage us all to buy local.
Mr Hamilton, a member of the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs committee, is flying the flag for Welsh produce and urging everyone to take part in the Farming Union of Wales Farmhouse Breakfast initiative.
The annual event is one of the key campaigns organised by the union and runs this year from Monday January 18 – Sunday January 24.
Mr Hamilton, who every year supports the initiative, said:
“Obviously, because of Covid, the event is going to be very different this year but I am keen to still join in and mark the occasion.
“Normally I would be sitting down with my fellow MS’s at the Senedd enjoying a first class breakfast of top quality farm produce ranging from bacon, sausages and eggs to speciality dairy products, breads and cereals
“This year will be very different but I am determined to encourage everyone to show their support for our great Welsh produce. I will be enjoying a Welsh Breakfast at home including Pork and Laverbread sausages and welsh cockles, the latter sadly tinned.
“I strongly back this annual FUW initiative to encourage people to think about where their breakfast food comes from and am delighted to see so many businesses in my Region taking part this year.
This a wonderful opportunity to showcase the breadth and wealth of quality breakfast produce which is available all over Wales.”
FUW President Glyn Roberts said the ethos of sitting around the kitchen table to enjoy the wonderful farming produce is still very much do-able at home with our closest family.
The Union is therefore encouraging the public to get involved with breakfast week by purchasing locally sourced breakfast ingredients, and sharing photos and videos of themselves with their breakfast through social media, using the hashtag #breakfastweek2021.
Mr Roberts said: “We have joined forces with butchers, farm shops, cafes and other Welsh Food retailers across Wales to help spread the word about the fantastic produce that is available right on our doorstep. We hope many of you will support this campaign and take time out to enjoy the wonderful, sustainably grown, breakfast food we have on offer here in Wales.”
