Equality Carmartheshire – a partnership of local organisations and groups – is taking to the streets with a series of street stalls in Llanelli, Ammanford and Carmarthen, to spread the message that we all have “More In Common”. The campaign is part of a national effort to stop the escalation of Hate Crime which has been seen in the aftermath of the Brexit vote.
Equality Carmarthenshire is backed by groups and individuals representing the interests of people with disabilities , LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) people, Black and Minority Ethnic and religious groups as well as the county council, police, fire, health service, Coleg Sir Gar and other public sector interests.
Group sokesperson, Equality Carmarthenshire Chairperson Inspector Alun Samuel said;
“Carmarthenshire has a proud traditon of welcoming people from all backgounds to our community and we want to make sure that we continue to build on those values of respect and tolerance. We are lucky that we have not seen reports of rising hate crime that have been seen in other parts of the country but we don’t want to be complacent.
We want to spread a positive message that we are all equally valued and we all have a part to play in our community.
We are using the message that we all have “More In Common” to show that we are united and that we value the contribution that all members of our community can make.”
