Cancel culture and those who advocate it have found a new target: Dan Harmon.
Harmon is a writer and has helped to create Rick and Rick and Morty the adult animation TV series.
Harmon created a video in 2009 that depicts him raping a baby, although, the baby in the video is a doll and no harm was caused from the video: it was a joke taken too far.
The video was designed to be a parody of the TV Series Dexter.
Soon after its release Harmon apologised for the video as he ‘realised the content was way
too distasteful’.
So now people are taking to twitter to demand that Rick and Morty should be cancelled.
This is cancel culture!
If a person says or does something to offend others then people take to social media to get this person cancelled and boycotted.
Rick and Morty is an extremely popular TV show and has many fans across the world.
People have the right to be offended by Harmon’s video and they have the right to stop
watching Rick and Morty.
However, to call for the cancellation of a show because you feel offended is taking matters too far.
JK Rowling is another celebrity that has experienced the cancel culture directed at her
because she made comments about gender identity that angered the LGBT community.
What people need to realise is that the world is made up of many different people and
cultures and not everyone shares the same views.
If a person does not like a view or action made by another person then don’t become outraged and attempt to cancel them. This is doing more harm than good.
Does free speech still exist? Not with cancel culture.
