Cllr Giles Morgan, member for the Swiss Valley Ward, has been elected to the chain of office at Carmarthenshire County Council’s Annual Meeting today, Wednesday 20 May 2026.
On taking the chair, Cllr Morgan paid tribute to the outgoing Chair and thanked Cllr Dot Jones for her service to the Council.
Cllr Morgan will chair the Council for the next 12 months, with his wife, Mrs Claire Morgan as his Consort, and Cllr Betsan Jones, member for Betws as his Vice-Chair.
Following the Annual Meeting, Cllr Giles Morgan, Chair of the Council commented:
I’m honoured to be elected Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council and I look forward to the year ahead.”
Cllr Morgan has chosen Dementia UK and Bloodwise as his charities for the forthcoming term.
The Chair is the first citizen of Carmarthenshire County Council and is elected at the Annual General Meeting.
Duties include chairing full meetings of the Council, representing the Council at formal and ceremonial occasions, welcoming visitors to the County, and attending and supporting events organised by local people and organisations.
Cllr Morgan has been a County Councillor since 2004, Chairs the Council’s Corporate Performance & Resources Committee and sits on the Audit Committee.
