Carmarthenshire council’s Executive Board has shown their support to Burry Port Harbour.
Members agreed that maintenance will continue with annual sand dredging along the approach channel and as much as much of the harbour basin as possible.
They have also requested for more detailed costs on dredging the entire harbour basin to remove the silt.
Executive board member, Cllr Pam, Palmer said: “Burry Port Harbour is the jewel in the crown, it is popular with both local people and visitors.”
The amount of sand and silt drifting into the harbour is dependent on the weather. Already the council has a dredging regime in place to remove sand at the harbour entrance. This is done every year in April ahead of the summer season when the harbour is at its busiest and currently costs around £40k.
Cllr leader Emlyn Dole said: “It is a big part of life in our county, the harbour is important and people visit from all areas.”
