Carmarthenshire Council could lose one elected member and four wards under proposals being drawn up by a boundary commission.
The council currently has 75 councillors representing 51 wards.
The Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru is looking to ensure more electoral parity and is consulting on proposals for 74 councillors serving 47 wards.
It plans to decrease the number of wards by creating four new ones – Hendy Tycroes, Llwynhendy Bynea, Llandeilo Llanfihangel Aberbythych, and Pen-y-groes Llandybie – from eight existing ones namely Hendy, Tycroes, Llwynhendy, Bynea, Llandeilo, Llanfihangel Aberbythych, Pen-y-groes, and Llandybie.
Minor amendments are proposed for the Glyn, Trimsaran, Pontyberem, and Llangyndeyrn wards.
The commission’s chief executive, Shereen Williams, said: “The commission looks forward to continuing to work with people in Carmarthenshire, and its partners in local government, as it seeks to ensure that people across the county are represented equally, that people’s votes carry the same strength, and that councillors are able to share a more equal workload.”
The consultation ends on November 12.
