A dog who was seen fouling on Llanelli playing fields was followed home by council officers and its owner fined.
Environmental enforcement officers found the unaccompanied dog wandering on Penyfan playing fields.
They followed him back home and found that the back door had been left open.
The owner was issued with a fixed penalty notice of £75 for failing to clean up after his dog
Failure to pay within 14 days could lead to prosecution in the magistrates court and a maximum fine of £1,000.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Just because the owner was not with the dog at the time it does not mean he is not accountable. In failing to clean up after it he has committed an offence.
“Hopefully this will act as a warning to others that dog fouling will not be tolerated and action will be taken against those caught breaking the law in this way.”
Residents are being urged to help the council clean up Carmarthenshire and catch those responsible for dog fouling by reporting offenders.
