DRUG dealers targeting children in Llanelli could cause a fatality, a leading town councillor warned this week.
Labour Lliedi ward councillor Shaun Greaney is urging police to step up patrols – and urging greater community vigilance – in the Penygaer area after a 15-year-old boy was offered drugs by a man.
‘We must drive this potentially deadly trade out of our community,’ said councillor Greaney after speaking to the boy’s mum.
‘Fortunately her son had the good sense to say no, but the lady is terrified of the potential consequences for other children and has asked me to spread the alert,’ he said.
‘She fears there could be a fatality and I wholeheartedly share that worry.
‘Drug dealing is an evil trade and I am urging all parents in the area to wise up their children to say no to drugs and to beware stranger danger.’
Councillor Greaney said he was alerted after the boy was asked to buy a ‘white rock’, which was ‘waved in front of his face’ and was ‘probably crack cocaine’.
The crime, which took place at around 5,30pm last Thursday in a lane leading from Penygaer Field to Felinfoel, follows previous reports of young men on e-bikes behaving suspiciously along the path near the River Lliedi, said councillor Greaney.
‘Local police are aware of the e-bikers who seem to have been up to no good and have promised to patrol the area,’ said councillor Greaney.
‘But the latest report of a child’s life being put at risk by a fully grown adult is horrendous and demands an instant response,’ he added.
‘I hope they will put out a description of the man and officially appeal for witnesses.
‘I can’t stress strongly enough how important it is that the public act as the eyes and ears for the Police.
‘If anyone in the area knows who this man is, please please, report him to the Police so he can be arrested before he kills somebody,’ said councillor Greaney.
