The Health, Social Care and Sport Committee of the National Assembly for Wales has released its report into Endoscopy Services in Wales, looking at the diagnostic capacity and waiting times for bowl cancer screenings in Wales.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar commented:
“The Committee’s report has highlighted some key areas of concern that the Welsh Government need to address urgently to ensure that patients that have suspected bowl cancer are seen quickly in order to identify cancer earlier and increase the chances of beating this horrible illness.
“It is shocking that nearly 2,000 people are still waiting more than the Welsh Government’s 8 week target time for a diagnostic endoscopy and it is a major concern that these figures continue to fluctuate and that there isn’t enough capacity in our hospitals to meet demand.
“By 2023, the Welsh NHS will have an extra £1.2 billion a year thanks to the major funding increase by the Conservative UK Government, and it’s essential that the Welsh Labour-led Government uses this money to ensure patients across Wales get the treatment they deserve.”
