‘Far-right politics can be defeated by standing firm in our principles of inclusion and humanity’ – Plaid Cymru

Liz Saville Roberts to address crowds at Together Alliance’s march against the far-right  

Today (Saturday 28 March) Plaid Cymru Westminster Leader, Liz Saville Roberts MP will deliver a speech at Together Alliance’s ‘March Against the Far Right’ in London.  

The Together Alliance is a broad coalition of organisations, trade unions, political parties, community groups and various public figures formed to oppose the rise of the far-right.

The march will take place in central London, culminating in a rally with music and speeches. Organisers are expecting tens of thousands of participants.

Liz Saville Roberts MP will deliver a speech, representing Plaid Cymru. She said that as far-right politics gains ground, Plaid Cymru has shown in Wales that it can be “challenged and defeated” by standing firm in our principles. This comes following Plaid Cymru’s historic win in the Caerphilly by-election where the party beat Reform with a majority of 3,848 votes after a collapse in support for Labour. 

The most recent YouGov poll for the Senedd election, published earlier this week, suggests that the by-election result could be replicated across Wales in May, with Plaid Cymru leading in a two-horse race with Reform UK. Ms Saville Roberts said that the Caerphilly by-election “solidified” the fact that, in Wales, “only Plaid Cymru can stop Reform”.

Speaking ahead of the event today, Liz Saville Roberts MP said: 

“At a time when far-right politics is gaining ground, we have shown in Wales that it can be challenged and defeated by standing firm in our principles.  

“With the Senedd election this May on the horizon, Plaid Cymru is proud to stand for inclusion and humanity. We stand firmly against racism and anti-migrant hatred in all its forms. 

“The Caerphilly by-election solidified the fact that in Wales, Reform can be stopped if progressives unite behind Plaid Cymru. In May, we have an opportunity to replicate that across Wales. 

“I am proud today to join progressives from across Parliament and civil society to say ‘enough is enough’ and call out the falsehoods peddled by the far right.”

Their is nothing Welsh about plaid only the name, they do not care about Wales or the Welsh language or culture, they have done nothing for Wales when they were in coalition with labour and are just as bad as labour. There is nothing far right or racist wanting to stand up for your country it’s history it’s culture and the people that live in it. Politicians and unions seem to care more about foreigners rights, foreign wars than the the country and people who they were elected to serve

  4. If you want to know Plaid, go and have a look at the voting records in the Senedd. It tells you all you need to know. Then go and look at the first 100 days manifesto they’ve released.

  7. Rhun ap Iorwerth and Plaid have effectively given unvetted illegals the green light to come to Wales. If you want our women and children to be unsafe and you get your kicks from rape gang enquiries, go right ahead and vote Plaid. Otherwise, vote Reform and and protect us all.

      Your reform/brexit party/ukip or whatever name they use to be called before caused a lot of problems, lost the Dublin agreement since leaving the EU thanks to Farage.

    cement 22hours waiting for an ambulance saving the language is fine but not at the expense of peoples lives also the senedd is a waste of public money

  16. plaid talking about inclusivity is amazing, a party built on hating the english with a passion think people wont see their hatefull foundations.

  20. Labour/Plaid or Plaid/Labour same difference really. Both gonna force net zero on the people – they will force a car use cut of 50% through punitive charging to force people out of cars and onto public transport (if you can find any in a family emergency at 1 or 2 am!) onto cycles and walking. You’ll be charged per mile to drive your car, you’ll be charged to park your car at work. This is what you’ll get if you vote Plaid or Labour or Green or LibDem. When they come knocking on your door asking for you vote- ASK THEM ABOUT THIS.

  21. “Far Right”….. anyone who has a different opinion to Plaid Cymru. The very party who in Llanelli tried (unsuccessfully) to scrap a new ALN/SEN school. A school that their own INDEPENDENT review stated that is desperately NEEDED. Parents, staff and the wider community fought the council and WON. Not exactly “far right”, just people who want the best for their children.
    Oh and the council only had to fund 25% (75% funded by the Welsh government) which equated to about £7.8 million when the council had £46 million UNSPENT from the education budget.

  22. And they don’t get as far right as you lot in plaid, with your rattling on about independence. Its not ever going to happen. Welsh language I’d never going to be more than18%. You could not improve it when there were two languages. Now there are 11. You got no hope.

    Tried to murder an entire race (and nearly did) I.E. the Jews.
    Invaded a good size chunk of the world.
    Instructed his solder’s to rape women from the country they invaded.
    Commited torture on a huge industrial scale.
    Skinned Jews for their tattoo’s to make decorative lamp shades.
    Looted and stole fortunes as they invaded.
    Starved people.
    Carried out human experiments on people like sewing on body parts from other people and animals to “see what would happen”
    Forced people to do acts that made them die.
    Made death as inhumane and painfull as possable to remove dignity like hanging them do death by their thumbs.
    I can go on.
    Nigel Farage in comparison wants to secure our borders
    Support businesses.
    Stop DEI.
    Stop net zero from bankrupting us.
    Give life sentences to child rapists and stop rape gangs.
    I for one see the difference.
    Somehow liberals and left wing cant?
    We must act and get Reform UK in government for us and our families.
