For people living with dementia and those who care for them, finding activities that bring joy, connection and support can make a real difference. Forget-me-not Chorus offers exactly that through five free community choirs in Wales, welcoming people into a space full of music, laughter and friendship.
Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the charity is now expanding to Llanelli.
Each two-hour session begins with a gentle warm-up, followed by plenty of singing, movement and a tea and chat break. No previous singing experience is needed as music is taught by ear, and everyone is encouraged to join in at their own pace. Family members and friends sing alongside their loved ones, creating a supportive and uplifting environment for everyone impacted by dementia.
One participant described what the choir means to them ‘As a family, we all came away with a spring in our steps. Everything about FMNC is so joyful.‘ The energy in the room is described as ‘magical’ and for many group members, the uplift continues long after the session ends.
Katherine Harri, Forget-me-not Chorus, says: ‘We believe passionately in the power of shared song to make a difference. We’re delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognised our work in this way. Now, thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to bring our inclusive, empowering singing sessions to the Llanelli community, supporting even more people living with dementia and those who care for them.’
The new community group will be meeting every week for two hours of song and friendship… the FMNC-way hosted by People Speak Up! (PSU) a social, mental health, arts, health and wellbeing charity based in the heart of the community.
Eleanor Shaw, PSU Founder/ CEO said: ‘We are delighted to be working with Forget-me-not Chorus in providing a space for the choir to be held at our arts health and wellbeing hub in Llanelli. A fully accessible space that provides a safe space for people to connect and experience arts activities with an experienced creative team. Our dementia group are very excited and we look forward to welcoming more people that are on a dementia journey to our hub.’

Cost: Completely free of charge.
No formal diagnosis or referral is needed, and participation is completely free for anyone living with and alongside dementia.
