People suffering with Alzheimer’s are meeting regularly with the Dyfed Family History Group and reminiscing about the past.
The group meeting at the Ebenezer Apostolic Church, Halfway, Talley, Llandeilo, enjoy a cup of tea and biscuits while recalling the good old days.
Alzheimer’s group co-ordinator Cheryl Davies said society members had drawn up a programme for their fortnightly meetings to enable a structured scenario to be built up.
The first meeting ensured introductions were made and through November the sessions will cover childhood experiences, including home life, health and school. Family members: living conditions and gardens. Pastimes: Including sport, hobbies cars and social activities and holidays and visits to local attractions like castles and beaches. Practical: Family tree. Work: Types of jobs, wages and war year’s experiences finishing with a review of coursework and a discussion on possible future sessions.
County executive board member for health and social care, Cllr Jane Tremlett, said it was encouraging to see there was so much innovative work going on in the county around dementia and Alzheimer’s.
“Such activity is important to help stimulate and encourage sufferers to engage in activities they are known to be good at,” she said.
Cheryl said carers are welcome to attend the sessions which will be held on alternate Tuesdays from October 20, 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Carreg Cennen Castle (pictured) was one of the castles mentioned by the group.
