A Llanelli man has been ordered to pay nearly £200 for dropping litter, in a prosecution led by Carmarthenshire County Council.
Curtis Wilding, of Brynsierfel in Llanelli, admitted walking passed recycling and litter bins before dropping two paper receipts in the car park adjacent to Dafen Pond.
The 21-year-old was approached by council environment enforcement officers, who had witnessed the littering on Sunday, January 15, and he admitted the offence.
He was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice under Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which he signed and agreed to pay. Despite a reminder letter sent out to Wilding no payment was received.
Llanelli magistrates fined him £75. He must also pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
The council’s executive board member for enforcement, Cllr Philip Hughes said: “Littering makes an area look untidy and costs us a lot of money to clean it up. In this case bins were provided but if there isn’t one nearby, wait until you find one or take your rubbish home with you. There are no excuses and we will continue to prosecute anyone who is caught littering.”
