As members of Llanelli Town Council, we are bitterly disappointed by the Facebook post made by Councillor David Darkin, the Labour leader of the Town Council which makes false allegations of how we voted at a meeting of the Town Council on Wednesday 2nd October.
A Motion was put forward by Independent / Plaid Town Councillors which included writing to Hywel Dda to formally request for their executives to attend a meeting to discuss their shocking plans for our hospital Minor Injuries Unit (MIU). The motion also reiterated our full support for the SOSPPAN campaign to keep the MIU open 24/7.
All Independent and Plaid Councillors voted to protect the Minor Injuries Unit and called on the Welsh Government and its Health Secretary to intervene and stop Hywel Dda. We have also signed the SOSPPAN community petition.
Councillor Darkin wanted to remove our call on Welsh Government to intervene and stop Hywel Dda. We voted against this as Welsh Government can put a stop to these plans if they wanted to. Our Town has already lost its A&E. We simply cannot afford to lose anymore of our health services.
We believe the inaccurate, misleading, and defamatory statement made by the Council Leader has potentially breached the Councillors code of conduct at a time when we all need to be united in calling for Welsh Government to save our MIU.
