A BETWS man has been prosecuted for fly-tipping alongside the A48 in Cross Hands.
Elfed James Rees, aged 60, of Parc Penrhiw, pleaded guilty at Carmarthen Magistrates Court to an offence contrary to Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
In November last year environmental enforcement officers from the council attended a fly-tipping offence on land next to the A48 in Cross Hands.
Amongst the items were a cooker, washing machine, sofa chair, chipboard panels and a number of black bags of rubbish.
The officers found evidence which linked the rubbish to Rees who was living on the Glasfryn Estate, St Clears at the time. He admitted dumping the rubbish bags on his way to work but denied any knowledge of the other items.
Rees was fined £200 by magistrates and ordered to pay £264.91 prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “We are determined to clean up Carmarthenshire for both residents and visitors to the area and take these type of offences very seriously.
“We will not hesitate to prosecute anyone caught fly-tipping.”
