Llanelli’s Member of the Senedd Lee Waters is hosting an open event from 11:30am on 17th September looking at the feasibility of setting up a flexible coworking space in the town centre.
The workshop-style event will be held at Glenalla Civic Hall and is open to anyone who would be interested in working in such a venue.
Invitations will be sent out to local businesses as well as representatives from Carmarthenshire and Llanelli Town Council, Hywel Dda Health Board, Coleg Sir Gar and Trinity St David University.
The number of people working from home surged during the first lockdown, and the Welsh Government has published aims for at least 30% of the workforce to have the opportunity to work flexibly between home and the office.
Mr Waters says a coworking hub in the town centre will give workers, students and others more choice on where they ply their trade on a daily basis.
Lee Waters said:
“For towns like Llanelli, the opportunity to attract commuters who would normally go to the big city offices for work is massive. And for some of our cutting-edge local firms, an attractive, close to home, space to collaborate together could unlock real economic benefits.”
He added:
“This workshop is a chance to get the ball rolling on what it would take to establish a coworking hub here in our town centre. What would its purpose be? Who would run it? How would it be paid for? Where should it be located? These are all live questions, and the event is our first chance to have an in-person discussion about them. If the idea of a coworking hub interests you or your business, please do come along and contribute to the discussion.”
