PUPILS from Richmond Park School in Carmarthen visited Carmarthen library recently to celebrate “National Anthem Day”.
Children gathered to sing a range of traditional Welsh songs, including the National anthem, and performed recorder recitals and a short play from the story of Gelert.
The lucky pupils also received a free book from the library in celebration of “World Book Day”.
The event was one of a series held in the town to mark Carmarthen Welsh Week. Now in its second year, the weeklong festival of activities is held to celebrate St. David’s Day with a special focus on showcasing our unique language and culture. A parade through the town, red dragon shows on St. Catherines Walk and a special schools concert were just some of the other activities which took place to mark the day of our Patron Saint.
Cllr. Mair Stephens said “Welsh Week has become an exciting fixture on the Carmarthen calendar.”
“It is a fantastic week of celebrations in which the whole town gets involved. It’s great to see this wonderful event take place with the schoolchildren at our library and I hope we can make this an annual event to commemorate Saint David in Carmarthen”.
