With increased difficulty involved in parental childcare duties during lockdown restrictions, Public Health Wales is offering a series of online courses aimed at helping all parents, soon to be parents, grandparents, and other caregivers.
The courses offer greater understanding in developmental and emotional milestones in children, ranging from pre-birth to late teens. Specific topics include play, styles of parenting, sleep, temper tantrums, communications, and similar. All of these courses are bilingual, and will be available from the present day through until May 2021.
Amy McNaughton, Consultant in Public Health at Public Health Wales said: “Healthy family relationships are important in supporting children’s wellbeing and development, particularly in the earliest years of life.
“Families in Wales are living through extraordinary times. I can’t stress enough that it is completely normal to need help; and that it is ok to ask for and accept it.”
The service was initially launched by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, and has been implemented by Public Health Wales for an initial 12-month trial, during which time every parent in Wales can access the ‘In Our Place’ website at no charge.
All users need to visit www.inourplace.co.uk and use the code ‘SWSOL’ to gain access, if living in Mid, West, or South Wales, then choose the courses most relevant to their children and situation.
The courses are split into four categories for ease of use:
- Understanding pregnancy, labour birth, and your baby.
- Understanding your baby.
- Understanding your child.
- Understanding your teenager’s brain.
