The historic portside and old industrial town of Briton Ferry is to play host again to the veteran passenger ship the ‘Balmoral’, which was built in 1949.
The historic cruise leaves the Quays wharf by Brunel Dock on Sunday July 19, sailing at 9.00am for Ilfracombe via Porthcawl and returning to Briton Ferry at 9.00pm.
The ship has undergone extensive restoration work recently and is ready once again to offer visitors a taste of post war sea travel, as they take in the beauty of the Exmoor Coast.
Neath Port Talbot Council leader Ali Thomas OBE, said, “The cruise is an attraction that people in Neath Port Talbot and the surrounding area look forward to. I am delighted to see that the ship is being kept in excellent condition, and I do hope that this means Briton Ferry will play host to the Balmoral for many years to come.”
Local Councillor and organiser with the Briton Ferry Balmoral Group, Cllr Hugh James, said “as a local councillor for the Briton Ferry west ward, I am particularly proud that the restored Balmoral is making an epic one off trip on Sunday from the Quays at Brunel Dock, to sail to Porthcawl and Ilfracombe.
“This brings back the bygone days when people sailed from Briton Ferry to the Devon Coast.”
