Llwynhendy residents say enough is enough due to a recent spate of dog fouling. In recent months fresh dog faeces appears daily on most Llwynhendy streets particularly Brynsierfel which has a Primary School on the street. Children face an obstacle course of dog poo when travelling to and from school. This isn’t good news as the school does its best to encourage children to walk to school by organising a walking bus.

As well as being filthy, dog mess is also unhygienic and a health hazard. Dog mess can lead to Parvo, which is a potentially fatal disease which is transferred between dogs, but the key health issue with dog faeces is that it can lead to Toxocariasis in humans. Toxocariasis can cause serious illness, and even lead to blindness. It is caused by a parasite, known as Toxocara Canis, also commonly referred to as Roundworm. The symptoms can be particularly nasty. They include seizures, stomach upsets, sore throats, breathing difficulties such as asthma and eye problems.

A person who doesn’t clean up after their dog may face an on the spot fine of up to £80. If a person refuses to pay they can be taken to the local magistrates court for the offence and fined up to £1000.

Councillors, Sharen Davies and Jason Hart say that they report these issues to the Council regularly. They have requested dog fouling bins and signs for the area to help with the increasing problem. They are still waiting for an answer to the request for the bins and signs. The cleansing teams clean up the mess but as soon as its cleaned up more dog mess appears.
