SECTION 106 money – the funding used to benefit communities as a planning condition of housing developments – has been debated by councillors at Full Council.
Cllr Deryk Cundy, member for Bynea, posed a Notice of Motion asking for local councillors to have a bigger part to play in decisions on how S106 money is spent.
He argued that local councillors could add local knowledge and better represent the needs of the community before decisions are made.
However, Cllr Emlyn Dole, said that the council’s planning process and policy already made provision for members to be involved from an early stage, including pre-application consultation, as well as the formal planning application.
He also pointed out that local members could contact development management officers to discuss developer contributions.
During the discussion, it was noted that members would have opportunity to contribute to the formulation of policy around developer contributions as part of a proposed review of the Local Development Plan.
Following advice that the Notice of Motion tabled may conflict with current policy, members voted against.
