The number of people injured due to serious violence has fallen by 10% in 2016 according to a new report by Cardiff University.
The data emerged from a detailed analysis of scientific data from 156 emergency departments, minor injury units, and walk-in centres in England & Wales.
The report’s author – Professor Jonathan Shepherd – identified a decline of 40% in people needing treatment in emergency departments after violence.
Commenting on the report, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, said:
“Today’s figures are great news for communities in England and Wales, with serious crime having fallen sharply.
“Not only does that mean safer communities, it saves precious NHS resources and reduces the pressure on the criminal justice system.
“Crime has fallen by almost a quarter since 2010, and it now sits at its lowest ever level.
“It’s a record that our police forces should be proud of, and a record of Conservative delivery in Government.”
