The CBSA has opened Y Sied Offer/The Tool Shed, with an official launch from their brand-new workshop at the Lord Arthur Rank Centre in Llanelli. Opened by the Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council Kevin Madge, the event was filmed by S4C for the Heno and Prynhawn Da programmes.
The first ever tool lending library in Carmarthenshire has understandably generated a lot of interest. Y Sied Offer/The Tool Shed is an exciting project that will make a real difference to the lives of working families throughout Carmarthenshire.
For an annual membership fee of £25, Y Sied Offer/The Tool Shed will loan tools to working families who have at least one child under 18 with a low disposable income so that they can carry out repairs and upcycling. The project will also provide workshops on DIY and upcycling to ensure families learn how to use the tools safely and can then carry out their own repairs and maintenance at home.
Vanessa Bolton, Project Co-Ordinator said “Y Sied Offer/The Tool Shed is unique in Carmarthenshire, and will be an invaluable support for local families who need help to improve their homes and develop their DIY skills but lack the money to do so. We will be looking for donations of tools that are in a good, clean and safe condition, as well as volunteers who may be interested in helping us show how to use tools, build and repair furniture, or assist with delivering tools and teaching workshops.”
