A Gwendraeth Valley woman has been fined £220 for throwing litter out of a car window.
Jenna Louise Knight, aged 30, of Bryn Holfen, Heol Yr Ysgol, Cefneithin, was also ordered to pay £225 prosecution costs plus a £20 victim surcharge.
Knight failed to attend Carmarthen Magistrates Court and was convicted in absence to an offence contrary to Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
The court heard that on March 27 council environmental enforcement officers were on duty in the Co-op car park in Cross Hands when they saw Knight drop a piece of foil from a cigarette box out of a car window.
She made no attempt to pick it up or to use the nearby litter bins.
The officers approached Knight as she started to reverse the car and explained what they had seen and that it was an offence.
She was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 but failed to pay it despite a reminder letter being sent.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Litter from vehicles is a major problem throughout the UK and there is no excuse for it. If there are no bins nearby, then take your rubbish home with you to dispose of.
“We are determined to clean up the county and prosecute those that break the law.”
