A WOMAN has been fined for throwing a cigarette end out of a car window.
The incident happened on the A485 between Rhydargaeau and Peniel and was reported to the council’s environmental enforcement section by a member of the public.
He was driving along the road and saw the driver of the vehicle in front open the window and throw a cigarette end onto the road.
He made a note of the car registration number and reported it.
Officers investigated the incident and a woman from the Swansea area was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75.
Failure to pay could lead to prosecution in court where the maximum fine is £2,500.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones is now encouraging people to take action.
“Car litter is a major problem throughout the UK with cigarette ends, crisp packets, drinks cans and fast food littering our verges,” he said.
“Our officers can’t be everywhere so we need the public to help us keep Carmarthenshire clean by reporting anyone they see dropping litter. Our officers can then make inquiries to identify the offender.”
Witnesses should note the registration number along with the car make, model and colour if possible as well as the date and time of the offence and then go to ilocal.carmarthenshire.gov.wales  and click on report or call 01267 234567.
