WWE seem to be in their element bringing back a variety of of events from times long past. NXT have a heap of special shows sharing names from old events, Halloween Havoc, Great American Bash & New Years Evil to list a few. In a few weeks WWE will host Bad Blood, and Survivor Series nowadays is just as much about WarGames.
This trend is officially set to continue, as recently WWE have announced that on December 14th, they will bring Back Saturday Night’s Main Event. This is a result of the new 5 year deal WWE signed with NBCUniversal which also saw Smackdown leave Fox and return to USA Network in… the USA. As part of this deal, WWE will be hosting these shows quarterly.
The show will emanate from the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York. Which is the same venue that the first ever Saturday Night’s Main Event took place all the way back in 1985. That show saw a Main Event of Hulk Hogan defending his WWF World Heavyweight Championship against Bob Orton, father of Randy Orton, if you needed any further demonstration of how long ago this show originated.
Saturday Night’s Main Event has had many iconic moments take place on the show, such as the first ever televised Steel Cage match, one of only 4 times Bret Hart ever faced Randy Savage in singles competition and the formation of the Mega Powers when Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage teamed up. So one would assume/hope, with the return of this event we will get an entirely new generation of these kinds of iconic moments that the next generation of Wrestling fans will be able to look back fondly on.
