CARMARTHENSHIRE Youth Council is to look back on its work over the past year at its Annual General Meeting.
The meeting takes place on Wednesday, July 12, at the Chamber in County Hall, Carmarthen, from 5pm to 8pm.
Carmarthenshire Youth Council (CYC) is made up of 42 young people aged between 11 and 25 years old from across the county.
Their aim is to represent the views of young people on issues of relevance to them with senior officers at the county council.
The AGM will provide members with the opportunity to affect change for the benefit of all young people in the county, by sharing their views with the people who are in positions of influence and have the power to make decisions.
The young people will be looking back at subjects they have researched and the positive achievements made over the last year. They will also discuss and share their views on which issues they want to look at addressing in the coming year.
The council’s Senior Participation and Children’s Rights Officer Sarah Powell said: “I’ve been proud to work with the young people over the last year as they have been so committed and enthusiastic in making sure that young people have a voice in Carmarthenshire and Wales.”
Education and Children’s Services Director Gareth Morgans will officially open the AGM and speak about the work of the CYC.
Council leader Cllr Emlyn Dole will be in attendance and will be giving the closing speech at the event.
Other senior officers, along with representatives from national organisations such as the National Assembly for Wales, and Children in Wales, will also be attending.
Youth council member Brittany Alsop-Bingham, aged 19 from Garnant, said: “After the hard work that the Youth Council has been doing over the last 12 months it will be really nice to see the new members of the CYC all together for our AGM, I am really looking forward to getting everyone involved in our work going forward.”
