Improvement works are due to start at the end of the summer at Furnace Pond in Llanelli.

The Trebeddrod reservoir embankment at the popular beauty sport will undergo some repair work and at the same time upgrades will be made in line with new reservoir regulation requirements.

An emergency draw down siphon will be installed to control rising water levels of the reservoir, particularly after storm events.

Part of the works will involve draining the pond and current fish stocks will be re-located as agreed with Natural Resources Wales.

Due to health and safety and the nature of the works the pond will need to close from the end of August. Rights of way that run through the site will also close.

Design work has already started with a completion date for the works expected in the new year.

In readiness for the reservoir re-opening, the council would like to hear from anglers as to what fish they would like to see restocked, in line with the current stock species profile.

The council’s executive board member for the environment, Cllr Hazel Evans said: “These works will ensure the reservoir is maintained to the highest standards so that visitors and the local community can continue to visit and enjoy this beautiful area.”
