Away from the anger and arrests seen at the Stradey Park Hotel plans are underway to paint a kinder and more caring picture of Llanelli.

Llanelli HOPE Not Hate is calling on the whole community to join its “Together in Kindness” gathering at the town’s Parc Howard on Sunday 16th July.

The event will combine a family picnic, arts and games and a vigil for compassion.

Local people will be invited to share messages of welcome to the newly arrived asylum seekers.

Event organiser, Steve Kelshaw said:

“We want to show that Llanelli has a big heart and we know that many people in the community are looking for an opportunity to show that we are a kinder and more compassionate community than we are seeing from the small minority on social media and outside the hotel.

We are especially concerned that some outside far right groups are stirring up trouble.

Llanelli has always been a welcoming town and we are confident that the majority of people will give asylum seekers a warm reception and recognise the traumatic journey that many have been through.”

Plans are also in place to provide direct support to the asylum seekers. Local churches, food banks, voluntary groups and charities have come together to provide volunteering opportunities, English classes, arts and sports activities and other services to give the newly arrived guests the best chance to settle into their new lives.

  1. We are a friendly welcoming town and I think a lot of anger is coming because our own residents in llanelli who are badly in need of houses, help ect seem to have been forgotten

    • June Morgan your comment is very valid. We haven’t forgotten local people and many of the organisations involved in this are helping local people every day eg food banks and local charities.🙂

    • Stephen Kelshaw are you helping these people to the tune of £4,000 + a month + cash or have you thrown in a can of Tesco slur Beans? These Criminals that you advocate will leach of us and will never ever repay this National Debt? What Budget is being used that places these criminals above all others??

    • Mark Anthony Rees criminals that leach off us?? Surely you’re talking about the ruling conservative gvt that has done f all to fix the asylum system, yet pay these hotel owners £m! They don’t want to fix the immigrant crisis because it’s the one thing that gets a certain aspect of the population riled up! They could sort out their processing of immigrants, make it quicker, process more claims (return more people) but they don’t! Cos that certain portion of society gets angry at immigrants, and that drives the right wing press! You’re being played like the rest of us!

    • Stephen Kelshaw So Criminals invading our country riles up the right wing press? Doesn’t it wind you up? We are full!! Full of people that do not belong here, will never be like us but you welcome this? You honestly think that it’s a Tory Labour thing? They are all the same. The infiltration is complete. MPs are voted in by demographic change! It’s all part of the invasion. It’s not holistic. It’s not evolution. It’s deliberate change! For why? It’s not happening in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Somalia, Eritrea… only in the West with its self loathing Leaders and army Left wing apologists! They, you sicken me to my very core!

    • Mark Anthony Rees The word “invasion” is inaccurate. Refugees and asylum seekers make up around 0.5% of the population.

    • Stephen Kelshaw so we have 3.5 million Refugees and asylum seekers? Isn’t that the population of Wales more or less? So yes it is an invasion! What about the other 20 million who have rocked up the last 20 years? Wtf is wrong with you? Are you a complete moron or just simple?

  2. You and your ilk make everyone angry people who donate to food banks expect the food to go to local people because they are struggling the people of Llanelli who have been on housing lists for years will now be pushed back further people who have to wait for GP appointments will have to wait longer people who have been waiting years for operations on the NHS will have to wait longer people who have paid taxes and who have contributed all their lives to our society are being left down because there is no help available and how dare you call genuinely concerned resididents far right I havent seen any far right groups attending the protests I have seen left wing groups turn up occasionally 90% if not more are from Swansea they turn up in a minibus they have been known to order food and then not pay for it this has been confirmed so off you go with your false claims and virtual signaling back to wherever you come from
