It was sad to read today that Siop y Pentan Llanelli is closing its doors in the beginning of March. Siop y Pentan Llanelli has been a prominent place for the Welsh language in the town and surrounding areas.
Plaid Cymru’s Westminster candidate Rhodri Davies noted; ‘It is very sad to think that there is no bookshop in the centre of a town which has so much culture and history. In terms of engagement and education, local bookshops are special places and it’s vital that our community – both young and old – have a choice of interesting reading material in Welsh and English. The town’s library is a great resource, but the experience of wandering into a bookshop and leaving with a new, unexpected treasure is one of life’s pleasures’.
Many thanks for their services and for giving local residents an opportunity in a very difficult period.
We wish them well as they continue their service in Siop y Pentan Carmarthen and sincerely hope that there will be an opportunity for the Welsh language here in the town of Llanelli.
