Unity organised by Llanelli Unites and People Speak Up will be returning to People Speak Up, Arts, Health & Wellbeing Hub, Park Street, Llanelli on Saturday 8 November, 2pm-6pm for an afternoon of spoken word and live music.
Following the success of last year’s first Unity event with the National Poet of Wales, Hanan Issa, this year sees the return of musician Parisa Fouladi and stories from Eric Ngalle Charles.
Parisa Fouladi is a Welsh Iranian artist from Cardiff and her music is influenced by NeoSoul, Jazz and hip-hop. She has performed at some of Wales’ most prestigious music events including Llwyfan y Maes at the National Eisteddfod, Tafwyl, Swn, Focus Wales, Gwyl Fach y Fro and 2023’s Trawsnewid: Transform event in Aberystwyth. Alongside numerous appearances on national television and radio, Parisa’s career highlights include performing at the live televised Cymru Ukraine concert in 2022 as well as presenting a documentary about Iran with Y Byd ar Bedward and ITV the following year. Parisa is currently recording her debut EP with the support of the BBC Horizons/Gorwelion Launchpad Fund.
Cameroonian writer, poet, playwright and human rights activist Eric Ngalle Charles will be sharing stories. He was awarded the Creative Wales Award 2017/2018 for his work on the topics of migration, trauma, and memory. In his autobiography I, Eric Ngalle: One Man’s Journey Crossing Continents from Africa to Europe (2019), he recounts his journey to Europe, where he spent several years seeking refuge. He sits on the boards of Literature Wales and Aberystwyth Arts Centre Advisory Group and begins his PhD at King’s College London in October 2021.
