It is with great sadness that Llanelli Town Council notes the passing of former County and Town Councillor Dyfrig Thomas on Sunday 1st January.
Dyfrig was a member of the Town Council for many years representing both the Bigyn Ward from 2008 – 2017 and the Tyisha Ward from 1999 – 2004. He also served as Llanelli Town Mayor during 2010-2011.
During this time, Dyfrig represented his communities with great distinction. Highly respected by all his colleagues and Council staff, he was always available to Councillors both those experienced and those newly elected to provide advice, guidance and friendship across the chamber. He was also a former School Governor of both Coedcae and Lakefield Schools.
An honours graduate of Aberystwyth University, he was a long standing campaigner for social justice and for Wales. His commitment and passion for the Welsh language, culture and heritage also included opening and running Llanelli’s first Welsh bookshop in ‘Siop y Werin’ on Market Street.
The Town Council passes its deepest sympathies to Dyfrig’s family and friends during this difficult time.
